£17m Of Clubcard Vouchers Expire This Month!

Updated: Mar 6, 2020

Make sure you aren't missing out on your share of £17m of Tesco vouchers!
Check to make sure that you don't own any of the £17m of Tesco Clubcard vouchers, due to expire at the end of this month!

Tesco has revealed that £17 million worth of unused Clubcard vouchers are set to expire at the end of the month. Here's how to check if you've got any forgotten vouchers, plus a trick to extend them.

Clubcard holders earn one point for each pound spent at Tesco. Points are then issued as vouchers – you receive them every three months as part of your Clubcard statement, or can request to have them added to your account instantly through the 'Faster Vouchers' scheme.

Vouchers are only valid for two years after they're issued (21 months if issued as Faster Vouchers), and while vouchers regularly expire, this is the first time Tesco has put a value on those that are set to lose their validity. It says some £17 million worth of vouchers are set to run out on Saturday 29 February, and while it can't tell us exactly how many Clubcard-holders have affected vouchers, it's expected to affect a large number of Tesco shoppers. If anything like me, your vouchers arrive and you put them somewhere safe for later use. I normally save them for times when things are a little tight, or if we have additional food to purchase for parties, birthdays, Christmas etc, and it's not unknown for me to forget about them entirely, or perhaps accidentally throw them away!

If you don't have any vouchers knocking around and you are unsure if perhaps you have mislaid some, then you can go to the Tesco Clubcard website and check to see if you have any unspent vouchers. To do this, select 'My Clubcard' and then 'Vouchers'. You'll need to be registered for a Tesco.com account and must know your Clubcard number, which is printed on Clubcards and Clubcard key fobs. You will then see a list of your available vouchers and the date that they expire. You can also download the Tesco app and check there as well.

Once you've found your vouchers, you can spend them online using the code provided – or if you plan to spend in store, you can print the vouchers off or scan the barcode available on the app at checkout.

Vouchers about to expire? There's a handy trick to extend them! If your vouchers are about to expire, you can extend their expiry date for another two years by making a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard site (not in store or on other Tesco websites) using a voucher and the remaining balance will then be credited back to your Clubcard account as points. They'll then be reissued as new vouchers (with an expiry date up to two years in the future) when you next get a batch. So if you spend £1 on a £10 voucher, you'll get £9.00 as new vouchers.

You'll need to do this trick for each voucher you have – so while it's likely to be worth it for a £10 voucher, it's less useful if you've got a handful of £1 vouchers, for example.

If you want to really maximise your vouchers, remember that 500 points equal £5 to spend in store, you can trade them for up to three times that value (ie, £15) in Reward partner vouchers – meaning the £17 million in unspent vouchers could be boosted to up to over £50 million to be spent on meals out, days out, railcards and more., so you could purchase vouchers for your favourite restaurant, or put them towards days out with kids to venues such as Thorpe Park.

Don't forget the expiry date is 29th February, so make sure you don't lose out, check today!
