What is GreenJinn?
GreenJinn is a free cashback app offering you cash back on a variety of grocery products from major retailers. The GreenJinn app is a little different to the other main supermarket cashback apps, (CheckoutSmart and Shopmium), as rather than offering you cashback on supermarket everyday products, it tends to focus on sustainable products, sustainable brands, and the more healthy food type products, over what the more processed, everyday items and convenience food offered by its competitors.
What sort of products can I earn cashback on?
You won't normally find products such as frozen pizza, big-brand biscuits or chocolate from well-known manufacturers. Instead, you'll likely come across products such as dairy-free food such as oat milk, vegan and vegetarian foods such as plant-based food offerings, including meal kits and ready-made meals, and you'll often find eco-friendly products such as laundry detergents, washing up liquid on offer, as well as a range of more premium drink products, pet food and often a range of organic foods, including cashback on fresh produce, such as a fruit and vegetables, which are usually a supermarket own brand products, over a more expensive 'big brand' offering. So, I guess the best way to class the app is as a healthy foods cashback app.
Where can I shop for the cashback?
GreenJinn offers cashback from mainstream retailers that you might use for your everyday shop. You can earn your cash back from: Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Coop, M&S, Wholefoods, Booths and Ocado, and you may also find offers from stores such as WHSmiths, Amazon, Holland & Barrett and some other online food retailers. You can normally earn cashback if you shop in- store or you are using online shopping for doing your food shopping.
The app allows you to filter the offers by a retailer, so if you are going to Tesco, for example, you can filter the app only to show you the products available from Tesco. This makes it easier to browse the app when in the store, looking for special offers, and also, if you are super organised, you can browse the offers before you get to the store and plan what you are going to purchase.
The GreenJinn cashback system works in much the same way as the other supermarket cashback cashback apps work. This means that while you're out doing your weekly shop, take a look at the app and see what products are available from the store you're in. Purchase the items you want to earn cashback on. When browsing the app, you'll see that every offer has a coupon amount assigned to it. These exclusive coupons are the cashback amount being offered. So once you've done your supermarket shop, you click on the green 'add' button next to the product and this adds the coupon to your basket. Once you've added all the applicable coupons to the basket, click on the basket icon at the bottom of the app, and this will show you all the coupons you added, and you then proceed to the claiming cashback part of the transaction.
How do I claim my cashback?
To claim your GreenJinn cashback, you need to supply your proof of purchase by taking clear pictures of the receipts. Having already added all your coupons to the basket, you then have the ability to add the picture of your receipt to upload to GreenJinn, who will then verify the purchase and award the cashback to your GreenJinn account. Once you have £1.50 worth of cashback in your account, you can withdraw this to your PayPal account or bank account. It's very simple, and the cashback claim process takes just a minute or so. You can expect to receive your payout within a couple of days, often sooner.
It's worth noting that it doesn't matter how you've paid for your product; you'll still get that cashback, so if, as an example, you've bought your shopping, including that cashback item from Tesco, using a gift card purchased from a gift card cashback service such as JamDoughnut, Airtime Rewards or Cheddar, you'll still get your GreenJinn cashback, on top of any cashback from the gift card cashback service, which in some cases, such as free products, you'll actually make a profit on the deal, which can't be bad!
How often do deals change, and how much cashback can I get?
You'll find GreenJinn change the deals on the free app every week or so. Some of the deals will be on the app for a while, others will be time-limited, especially the free food items offers, as there will only be a set number of products they can offer for free! Often, new products will launch when GreenJinn start working with new brands or with brands launching new items. The amount of cashback you can earn will vary from product to product. As I've said, you can score a totally free item; from time to time, normally, you'll find discounts of between 25% and 75% on products.
Is using GreenJinn worth it?
Green Jinn offers a range of interesting items from different retailers and brands you may not have previously come across. If you are only interested in mainstream products from your favourite brands, then it's possible this Cashback app isn't for you. If I'm honest when I first came across the app, I wasn't overly excited as I was used to the other cashback apps that offered cashback on top brands I knew and loved already, and so to come across an app filled with products and brands I didn't have experience of, I was less excited. However, I was drawn to trying some products, especially free items and those with a highly discounted rate, and realised that I was being daft; after all, how are you going to find your next favourite brands if you don't try different products?!
I now use the GreenJinn cashback app on a regular basis, and I've discovered lots of new products and brands that I buy on a regular basis, having tried them first as exclusive deals on the GreenJinn, and that's the exact reason that manufacturers work with apps such as Green Jinn, to raise brand awareness, after all its human nature that if we see something new and aren't sure, we'll like it, we are less likely to pay full price to try it, especially during a cost of living crisis, however, if I can grab that product for free or at a reduced rate, so I do not have to pay the full amount to try it, its more likely that I'll give it a whirl, and that's why the cashback shopping apps exist!
