If you're always on the lookout for easy ways to make a bit of extra money, especially ways that are super easy to do, let me introduce you to an app I’ve been using daily since it launched on iOS: Clear! which is an app that will pay you to scan your till receipts, meaning you can earn some extra money, from those bits of paper you usually just throw away!
You may have heard of these types of receipt scanning apps before, and possibly have been using one; however, with the closure of the super popular Amazon Shopper Panel receipt scanning app in July 2025, many of us were left looking for a new go-to receipt scanning app, and honestly, Clear! It couldn’t have launched at a better time, as it's the perfect replacement, and it's just launched its long-awaited iOS app, which means I've been able to use it, which is great!
I’ve been using it since day one on iOS, and in this post, I’ll take you through everything I’ve learned: how it works, how much I’ve earned, what’s good (and what could be better), and how you can start using it to turn your everyday shopping receipts into easy rewards.
I have a separate post that talks about how the Clear! The app works, in more detail, so check that out if you want to know more about the app and what it is and what it does. This post is a brief guide to the app, and to let you know what I think about it, now that I've had a chance to use it.
So, what is Clear!, and what does it do!?
Clear! is a free UK-based app that pays you for:
Scanning paper or email receipts
Completing short, well-paid surveys
Referring friends and family to join
You’ll earn rewards in your Clear! wallet, which can be cashed out as gift cards from Amazon, Greggs, Tesco, Deliveroo, Boots, and more.
What sets it apart? For me, it's the fast payouts, clean app interface, and realistic earning potential, especially now that the Amazon Shopper receipt scanning programme has closed, leaving a big gap for savvy receipt scanners!
What’s New at Clear! (August 2025 Update)
Clear! recently gave me a few updates worth sharing:
The app is now fully available on both iOS and Android, wahoo, so now it doesn't matter what operating system your phone has, you can use the Clear! app, which is fab news!
They’re expanding their user panel, aiming to add 2,000 new users this month. They take on new users slowly to avoid trying to do too much, too soon!
Clear! has paid out 9 rounds of client bonuses so far this year, with top earners receiving an average of £4.80 from each round.
They’re actively recruiting new users, so if you want in before the app becomes invite-only, now’s a great time to sign up.
Why Use a Receipt Scanning App?
Let’s rewind for a second. If you’ve never used one of these apps before, the concept might seem a bit strange.
Here’s the deal: When you scan your receipts, you’re anonymously sharing your purchase data, things like what you bought, where, and when, with brands and researchers who want to understand real-world shopping habits.
It’s exactly the same kind of info you already give away with a loyalty card. But with Clear!, you get paid for it.
🔹 Throw the receipt in the bin = £0🔹 Scan it with Clear! = up to 10p, plus potential bonuses
There’s no catch. No extra shopping. No barcode scanning in-store. Just upload the receipts you’d normally chuck, and earn some extra money!
How Much Can You Earn?
Here’s how Clear! pays:
Opportunity | Reward |
Grocery receipt | 10p |
Other receipt | 5p |
Survey | 60p each |
Referral | 75p (when both hit Level 1) |
Connecting streaming accounts like BBC iPlayer (above level 1) | £1 per connection |
Client payments (above level 0) | Varies |
You can:
Scan up to 22 receipts per week
Submit a maximum of 3 receipts per store per day
Only submit receipts that are less than 7 days old
Forward email receipts directly to Clear, meaning you don't have to actually scan the receipt.
Once your wallet hits £5, you can cash out for a gift card of your choice.

I’ve already cashed out once, I chose an Amazon voucher, as you can see above, and I’m nearly at my second, with just £1.10 to go, which I'm sure won't take long, especially when compared to Shoppix, which took me five months to reach a payout, Clear! is much faster!
My Honest Experience Using The Clear! Receipt App
I downloaded the app on the day the iOS version launched. I’d been waiting for it after hearing about the Android release. I now use it pretty much every day, depending on how often I’m shopping (and let’s be honest, I try not to spend every day!).
First payout: £5 Amazon voucher, earned in under a week
I earned from receipts, surveys, a 60p client bonus, and a few referrals
Surveys take under a minute and pay 60p , I’ve done about as many as I used to get on Amazon Shopper Panel
Referrals: Easy to share, but capped at 5 per month (I hit that quickly)
I haven’t enabled tracking features yet because my phone’s a bit old and low on space. But I plan to once I upgrade, you need them to unlock the higher reward tiers.
I haven’t got any complaints. The app’s clean, quick, and I love how little effort it takes, and how quickly you can earn enough points to get a payout.
Clear!’s Tiered Reward System
Clear! uses a level system to reward regular users:
Level | Reward Multiplier | Bonuses |
Level 1 | Standard | Base rates (up to 10p per receipt) |
Level 2 | 2× client rewards | Higher survey priority |
Level 3 (Infinity) | 4× rewards | £0.50 bonus every 7 weeks if active |
To reach higher levels, just:
Submit receipts consistently
Complete the in-app surveys
(Optionally) Enable the Usage Monitor and Ad Detector
Most Asked Questions about the Clear! App
I'm pretty nosy and reached out to Clear! to ask them what the most common questions they get asked are! I did this because, as someone who's mentioned Clear! several times on my blog and most certainly on my socials, I've personally been asked questions by Penny Pincher followers about aspects of the app, and wondered if the questions I was asked were also being asked them directly, and indeed thats the case, so to make it easier, I've popped the questions I've asked Clear! below, together with their responses, which will, I'm sure, be helpful to others!
What do the Usage Monitor and Ad Detector features actually do?
The Usage Monitor lets Clear! see which apps and websites you use, and what digital ads are shown to you. This helps brands understand where people spend their time online and what adverts they’ve seen.
The Ad Detector picks up nearby TV ads by using your phone’s microphone to match tiny sound clips (not full recordings) against a database of known adverts.
 Reassuringly:
No personal content is accessed; no passwords, bank info, or messages
The Ad Detector doesn’t record or send audio; only encrypted sound patterns leave your device
These features are completely optional, but they do help unlock higher earning tiers in the app
Who does the data we give to Clear! get used by, and what do they do with it?
Clear! collaborates with numerous well-known brands and organisations. These organisations could include household product manufacturers like Unilever, supermarkets like Tesco, popular food or drink producers like Coca-Cola, or social media channels like Meta. They could even be TV stations like Channel 4 (though not necessarily those brands).
Essentially, Clear! works with a diverse range of organisations that utilise data to gain insights into the general buying and advertising behaviour of their target audiences.
They don’t look at individuals; instead, they analyse trends across groups of people to answer questions like:
Are shoppers switching to other brands, or just buying less?
Which types of people are the most loyal customers?
Is our advertising actually driving sales?
Are digital or TV ads better at reaching new buyers?
Your purchase data comes from the receipts you upload. Clear! uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to read your receipt, and then AI to identify and categorise what you bought. All analysis is done at group level, not on you personally.
How do I refer a friend?
You can give friends and family your referral code and a link to the Clear! app download page. They then fill out the recruitment survey and enter your referral code. Once you’ve both hit Level 1, you’ll receive 75p and they’ll get 25p.
Where’s the iOS app?
You can download it after you've been accepted. Use the download page to get started.
Why wasn’t my receipt accepted?
If it’s valid and Clear!’s OCR didn’t recognise it: I've not had an issue with this yet, but I know from experience that some till receipts can be given to you faded or wonky, and this can make it harder for the app to read, so if that happens, just send the receipt to the app support email address and they'll sort it for you!
Top Tips to Maximise Your Rewards
Scan consistently – even one receipt a week keeps your account active
Always do surveys when they appear – they’re quick and well paid
Share your referral code early in the month to hit the 5-person cap
Forward email receipts from Amazon, Deliveroo, etc.
Combine with other apps like Shoppix to earn from the same receipt multiple times.
Enable tracking features (if you’re comfortable) to unlock higher tiers and earn more. I have no issue with the tracking element (usage monitor). I just have a phone on its way out, and it doesn't like to run too much software in the background, but once I upgrade the phone, I'll turn on the usage monitor option.
Is Clear! Worth It?
Yes, I genuinely think Clear! is the best option in the UK right now for turning your receipts into rewards!
It’s not life-changing money, but it adds up fast, especially if you’re scanning daily, grabbing the occasional survey, and referring friends.
For me, the fact that I’ve already cashed out, and could hit my second payout within weeks, tells me this app is here to stay.
So if, like me, you are still waiting for Shoppix to pay out, or looking for a replacement for the defunct Amazon Shopper panel app, (which was a game changer for how quickly you could get a payout when it came out), having Clear! launch their new iOS app, just as Amazon closed, is great news!
It means you'll likely not notice the financial impact of Amazon's closure on your wallet, and you'll benefit from its fast payments, which is a game-changer if you're used to the other slow-burning apps that take ages for you to see any rewards, so you'll likely find Clear! to be a great new receipt scanning app alternative, no matter if you have an Android or iOS phone!
I'm not alone in being chuffed with the app, I genuinely got the message below, via Instagram, from user name Kolkered while writing this post, and with their permission, I've added it below to show it's not just me loving the Clear! app!
