Morrisons Baby Club Free Cake and M&S The Parent Hood Explained

Morrisons Baby Club and M&S The Parent Hood both offer free cake with a hot drink. Here’s how the schemes work and how to save even more.

How New Parents Can Get Free Cake at Morrisons and M&S

Becoming a parent is expensive, and it leaves little room for small treats, even if you have the time for them!

Even something as simple as stopping for a coffee during a supermarket trip can make the difference between a stressful outing and one that feels slightly more manageable. When you’re tired and juggling a baby, being able to sit down, take a 10-minute breather and enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake can make all the difference.

If, for the price of that coffee, you can also enjoy a slice of cake, then that is the kind of offer worth knowing about.

That is why a couple of retailer schemes from Morrisons and Marks & Spencer are useful for new parents. Both run parenting programmes that include a café perk. In simple terms, you buy a hot drink and receive a free treat alongside it.

A free slice of cake saves you a couple of quid. But just as importantly, these parenting sessions bring together parents who are going through the same things at the same time.

You get the chance to sit down, chat properly, swap hints and tips and talk through what you’re dealing with. That kind of networking and support structure is invaluable.

How To Join The Morrisons Baby & Toddler Club

Morrisons runs a free Baby & Toddler Club for parents of children aged five and under. You can sign up through the Morrisons More app or website.

Once registered, you can visit a Morrisons Café on a Monday, known as 'Meet Up Mondays' and receive a free slice of cake when you buy any hot drink.

In many stores, a basic hot drink starts at around £1.85, and some cafés offer free refills.

For the price of a coffee or a cup of tea, you can sit down, enjoy a slice of cake and take a breather. New parents are often running on little sleep, juggling nappies, wipes and snacks, and feeling slightly burnt out.

So having the chance to grab a drink, sit back for a few minutes and enjoy something sweet can make the difference between a stressful trip out and one that feels more manageable.

Because the offer runs on Mondays, you often see other parents there at the same time. In some stores, Morrisons promotes these as Meet Up Mondays, which makes the café feel like a space where turning up with a buggy is completely normal.

Not every Morrisons has a café, so it is worth checking your local branch before making a special trip. Use this Morrisons cafe store finder to find the one closest to you.

How To Join The M&S The Parent Hood

Marks & Spencer offers a similar perk through its Sparks loyalty scheme. Sparks is free to join. Once you are signed up, you can opt into The Parent Hood.

Selected stores host Parent Hood café sessions, usually on Tuesday mornings between 9.30 am and 11.30 am. During that time, buying a hot drink includes a slice of cake, pastry or fruit pot when you scan your Sparks card.

The Parent Hood also includes 10% off baby grows until your child turns two. If you already buy baby clothing from M&S, that discount can add up over time.

Like the Morrisons sessions, these mornings tend to bring together parents at a similar stage. It feels relaxed and geared towards families rather than a busy lunchtime crowd.

How to Save Even More on the Coffee

Both Morrisons and M&S cafés allow you to pay for your order using gift cards, which can save you some extra money.

That means you can buy a gift card first through a cashback gift card app like JamDoughnut, then use it to pay for your drink at the café.

JamDoughnut regularly offers cashback when you purchase gift cards for both Morrisons and M&S. The rate varies, but even a few % back means you are reducing the cost of the drink before you even sit down.

So instead of paying £1.85 directly, you could be paying slightly less thanks to the cashback. It is not a huge saving on a single visit, but if you use these cafés regularly, it adds up over time.

Do bear in mind that minimum gift card purchase amounts are usually around £10. If you are only buying a coffee, that may be more than you need. However, if you are doing your food shop or picking up other items in the store anyway, you can simply use the remaining balance on the gift card towards those purchases.

Other Freebies for New Parents in the UK

Free cake offers are not common across every supermarket, but there are other parenting loyalty schemes worth knowing about.

Boots runs a Parenting Club through its Advantage Card scheme. Members receive stage-based offers and occasional free baby items.

Asda cafés offer a free Ella's baby food pouch with any purchase for children under 18 months. Availability can vary by store.

John Lewis sometimes provides café rewards to loyalty members through its app, including free hot drinks or cake.

If you are looking to reduce family food costs more generally, you can also check my guide to Kids Eat Free offers across the UK, which lists current restaurant and supermarket deals.

Offers change, so it is always sensible to check the relevant app before travelling.

Being a new parent is expensive. It does not get cheaper as children grow (sorry for that reality check!), and a free slice of cake won't transform your monthly budget, but it does lower the cost of a coffee stop you might already be making, or need to make for your own sanity!

When that coffee stop also gives you the chance to sit down, catch your breath and talk to other parents who understand exactly what you’re going through because they are going through it too, it can turn into a genuinely useful coffee break.
