Customers will receive a coupon to save 5% off diesel and unleaded petrol when they spend £60 in a single in-store transaction before Sunday 16^th August.

The coupon, which is currently worth up to 8p off a litre of fuel, is redeemable at Tesco-branded forecourts across the UK until Sunday 23^rd August.

Fuel prices have been back in the headlines following renewed conflict in the Middle East, with higher oil prices hitting what drivers have had to pay at the pumps over the last couple of months. The RAC has been tracking the effect of the conflict on UK petrol and diesel prices, while fresh military action around the Strait of Hormuz has added further pressure to global oil markets.

With the school summer holidays beginning and many families preparing for days out, UK breaks, and longer journeys, any genuine reduction in the cost of filling up is worth knowing about, so it's good news for travellers that shop at Asda!

Asda has launched a fuel offer through its Asda Rewards app, giving shoppers 5p off every litre after spending £40 or more in a single in-store transaction. The coupon can be used once at a participating Asda filling station, with a 60-litre fill saving up to £3. The offer is available at 321 Asda and Asda Express sites selling Asda-branded fuel. 

I have used Asda Rewards for some time, although Asda is not my nearest supermarket and I do not shop there every week. There is also no Asda filling station near my home, although there is one near my foster child’s school, so the offer may be useful when my usual plans take me that way.

That will be the deciding factor for many shoppers, because a fuel discount quickly becomes less appealing if you need to make a special journey to use it.

How the Asda 5p Fuel Discount Works

This is how the offer works. Spend £40 or more in a single in-store transaction between the 13th and 31st July 2026, making sure you scan your Asda Rewards card when you pay, and a fuel coupon will automatically appear in your app.

The coupon gives you 5p off every litre during one fuel purchase at a participating Asda filling station. To redeem it, scan your Asda Rewards barcode at the pump or kiosk, followed by the coupon, and the discount will be applied to the transaction.

The coupon must be used by Friday 7th August 2026. The £40 qualifying spend must also be completed in a single transaction, so several smaller shopping trips cannot be combined. 

How Much Could You Save?

Asda says a driver filling a typical 60-litre family car could save up to £3. That is a genuine saving, but it only works in your favour when the grocery shop and fuel purchase already fit your plans. 

If you normally spend at least £40 at Asda and regularly buy fuel there, the coupon gives you money off without changing your routine. If your normal shop comes to £25 and you add £15 of things you did not need simply to qualify, you have spent far more than the fuel discount is worth, although you could argue that if you'd use the extra items you purchased anyway, and won't have to buy them later, it's cost-effective if you have that money available now.

The same calculation applies to the journey to the filling station. Driving several miles out of your way could use a noticeable part of the saving, so check the location of your nearest participating site before planning around the offer.

What You Need to Check Before Shopping

The promotion is available at 321 participating Asda stores and Asda Express locations offering Asda-branded fuel. Not every Asda branch has a participating filling station, so check the Asda Rewards app or the full terms before relying on the coupon. 

The offer only applies to shopping completed inside a store. Online grocery deliveries and Click & Collect purchases do not count towards the £40 qualifying spend, which means customers who usually order online will need to visit a branch to take part.

You must also scan your Asda Rewards card during the qualifying shop. Without that scan, the purchase will not be connected to your account and the fuel coupon will not be added to the app.

Which Asda Petrol Stations Are Taking Part?

The fuel coupon can only be used at participating Asda filling stations and Asda Express sites selling Asda-branded fuel. Asda says 321 locations are included in the promotion, so it is worth checking the list before doing your qualifying shop or making a special journey to fill up.

Could Your Household Earn 2 Fuel Coupons?

If another adult in your household has their own Asda Rewards account and the Grocery and Fuel Mission appears in both apps, it may be worth considering how you split a larger shop.

For example, if you were going to spend more than £80 anyway, you could split the shopping into 2 separate transactions of at least £40. Each person would need to scan their own Asda Rewards card at checkout, which could generate a separate fuel coupon for each account.

That could provide 5p off per litre on 2 separate fuel purchases, saving up to £6 across 2 fills of 60 litres. Check that the mission is showing in both accounts before paying, as Asda’s press release states that each qualifying transaction generates a coupon but does not explain whether any additional household restrictions apply!

The important point is not to buy extra products purely to reach 2 qualifying spends. This only saves money when the household was already planning to spend at least £80.

Why the Timing Matters for Families

The offer arrives just as schools begin breaking up for summer and many families start travelling more often. Days out, visits to relatives, trips to the coast and UK holidays can all add extra mileage, particularly when several journeys fall within a short period.

A £3 reduction on one tank will not cover the cost of a day out, but it could pay towards parking, drinks or another small expense. The value comes from using the coupon alongside spending you had already planned, rather than treating it as a reason to increase your grocery bill.

The expiry date is important, as you may qualify for the coupon during a weekly shop, but it will only reduce your costs if you need fuel before 7th August, so it is worth remembering the expiry date rather than leaving it unused in the app!

Is Asda the Cheapest Supermarket?

Asda can be competitive, but the answer depends on what you buy. Which? placed Aldi first in its June 2026 comparison of 95 branded and own-brand groceries, with Lidl close behind and Asda in fourth place. 

The result changed when Which? compared 232 branded products. Asda was cheapest for that list for the fifth month running, with the basket costing £783.31, while Tesco with Clubcard was 2.73% more expensive and Sainsbury’s without Nectar was 15.33% higher. 

That matters because the fuel coupon should not be the main reason to shop at Asda, as shoppers who mainly buy branded groceries may already find Asda competitive before fuel savings are factored in, while households relying on own-brand basics may still spend less overall at Aldi or Lidl.

Can You Stack the Fuel Discount With Cashback?

It is worth checking whether another saving is available before paying for your shop. Cashback services such as JamDoughnut, TopCashback, Quidco and Rakuten may feature Asda offers at different times, although the rates and conditions can change.

JamDoughnut is likely to be the best option for earning cashback on an in-store Asda shop. You buy an Asda gift card through the app, earn cashback on the purchase and then use the gift card to pay for your shopping. Other cashback platforms may offer supermarket or delivery promotions, but that may not help you if they can't be used in-store, since this fuel offer requires you to make your purchase in-store, not online.

Any cashback earned at the grocery shop would sit alongside the fuel coupon and further reduce the overall cost.

Check the conditions before buying a gift card or clicking through a cashback site, as exclusions may apply. You should also make sure the payment method will still allow your Asda Rewards transaction to track correctly.
