If you enjoy reading or enjoy listening to audio books, but don't enjoy the extra expense of renting or buying them, then the BorrowBox app will be right up your street!
This app, which costs nothing to download, links to your local library membership and allows you to listen to thousands of audio books and read thousands of free e-books from your local library!
You use the app to find something that takes your fancy, and it will let you 'borrow' 5 ebooks and 5 audio books at a time, which is ideal if you're off on holiday, although some libraries have different rules on how many books and audio books you can use at any one time.
The app doesn't work with all libraries just yet, but all my local libraries were on the app when I looked, but you do need to be a member of your local library to use the app. If you're not a member, you may be able to register online rather than having to go to the actual library. I'm in Hampshire, and my local library allowed me to register online, and I was given a temporary membership number immediately, which allowed me to use the BorrowBox app!
The BorrowBox app works on most phones and tablets, making it handy for both adults and kids to make use of the facilities. You can set up a child's account on the app, as well as an adult account, so if your child has use of a tablet or Kindle, they can use that to help improve their reading skills or can listen to stories, which should keep them quiet for a little while!
You'll find a wide selection of titles and genres available, ranging from new books, classic books, romance novels, children's books, bedtime stories, short stories, academic books, informational books, such as how-to guides and self-help guides, like when you want to start trading CFDs and constantly check the nikkei index chart - so a selection of both fiction and non-fiction books to enjoy.
You will find a selection of authors; some may be new authors, where you can read their first book, and others well-known authors such as Charles Dickens, Jane Austen or Rudyard Kipling; whatever your preference, the app is a good source of great books, and your free account allows you to make use of them all!
The app works in a similar way to going to a library; you can view the books by your favourite genres or by the author if you prefer, or you can use the app's search engine to look for a particular title if you prefer. You then check out your book and are allocated a set number of days before it needs to be (digitally) returned.` If you haven't finished reading/listening to it, you can use the app to renew the loan and can continue using it. The app will show you how much longer you have to make use of the book, and you can, of course, return it earlier if you prefer, all from the comfort of your sofa; its an easy way to use your mobile devices or e-book reader to enjoy books, and even better it's free and available 24/7.
The app allows you to change the font size and colour, making it more accessible for those who may struggle to read a normal book.

You can, of course, also make use of the Amazon Audible service as well, which is £7.99 a month, which will offer some newer releases, and normally has a free trial offer, or as currently, 3 months use for 99p, so you can try it out before paying full price, but remember to cancel the trial if you don't want to pay the full price monthly!
