Sainsbury's 97p Chocolate Deal Is Back For A Week!

Sainsbury’s Nectar Prices can, of course, save you money on groceries, but now and then they run a promotion that really stands out, and one of the most popular is the Cadbury 97p deal, and it’s back!

If you have a Nectar card, you can pick up selected Cadbury sharing pouches for just 97p instead of the usual £1.95. As a bonus for this current promo (which also ran back in May), extra chocolate and sweet deals are running alongside it, including 95p Cadbury Fingers, £1 multipacks and Maynards Bassetts sweets from just 62p.

You’ll need a Nectar account to get the lower prices. More importantly, you must scan your physical Nectar card or the digital card in the Nectar app when you pay, or you won’t get the discount.

Which Cadbury chocolates are 97p at Sainsbury's?

There are currently 12 Cadbury sharing pouches in the 97p Nectar promotion. Most are 100g, while the Twisted Milk & White Buttons and Caramilk Buttons bags are 105g. Each is normally £1.95, so paying 97p saves 98p on every bag.

If you normally buy these bags at £1.95, 97p saves you 98p per pack. Four would normally cost £7.80, while four at the Nectar Price cost £3.88, saving £3.92.

For Cadbury fans, that's a good chance to put a few of your usual flavours away rather than paying almost twice as much later. I’d still stick to the ones you know you'll eat, rather than buying a cupboard full just because there is a purple Nectar label on the shelf.

Three Cadbury Fingers packs are only 95p

Dairy Milk Fingers, White Chocolate Fingers and Salted Caramel Fingers are all down to 95p with Nectar. Each 114g pack normally costs £2.25, so you’re saving £1.30 every time you pick one up at the promotional price.

They work out at roughly 83p per 100g, so if you like Fingers anyway, you get more chocolate for the money than the standard 100g pouches at 97p.

There is another Fingers deal worth looking for too. Cadbury Mini Fingers 5 x 19.3g are currently 75p with Nectar instead of £1.50, so they’re half price.

Which Cadbury multipacks are £1?

Sainsbury’s has also cut a sizeable selection of smaller Cadbury multipacks to £1 with Nectar. These differ from sharing bags because the chocolates are individually wrapped, which can make them far more practical depending on how you use them.

The Timeout five-pack looks good at £1, down from £1.65, while the Shortcake multipack drops from £1.55 to £1. The Freddo, Fudge, Little Bars, Buttons, Curly Wurly and selected Brunch packs all save 50p, putting many popular smaller Cadbury treats at the same £1 promotional shelf price.

That doesn’t mean every £1 pack gives you the same amount of chocolate. Four Buttons contain 57.6g in total, while four Curly Wurlys contain 86g, so if you genuinely don’t mind which one you buy, it’s worth looking at the total pack weight as well as the £1 price.

For us, though, individually wrapped bars have another advantage. They’re popular in our house because they make portion control easier, they can work well in packed lunches if your school allows chocolate, and when we’re watching what we eat at home, it’s much easier to know what you’ve had with one small wrapped bar than it is once a sharing bag has been opened.

If a multipack lasts several days because everyone takes one small treat rather than sitting with an open sharing bag, the format itself can help you spend less and make the chocolate last longer.

A 10-pack of Twirls is £2.25

The larger Cadbury Twirl multipack is also reduced, with 10 x 21.5g bars costing £2.25 with Nectar instead of £3. That saves 75p, or 25%, and gives you 215g of individually wrapped Twirls.

By weight, that works out at about £1.05 per 100g, which is a little more than the 97p sharing bags. That isn’t necessarily a reason to dismiss it if you want individual bars rather than loose chocolate.

For lunchboxes, smaller treats or keeping an eye on portion sizes, 10 individually wrapped bars may work better in your household than a couple of larger bags. Sometimes how you’re going to use something matters as much as the price per 100g.

Maynards Bassetts sweets are down to 62p

There are also four Maynards Bassetts sharing bags in the wider promotion, all reduced from £1.25 to 62p with Nectar. The 130g bags save 63p each, putting them at just under half the usual shelf price.

Sainsbury’s is currently showing the 130g Jelly Babies at 62p with Nectar rather than £1.25, matching the prices shown across the four Maynards Bassetts bags in the promotion.

These were included the last time Sainsbury’s ran a similar promotion too. If you prefer sweets to chocolate, 62p for a 130g bag is well worth checking while you’re in store.

You must scan Nectar, or you won't get the discounted price.

You need a Nectar account for all of these Nectar Prices, and simply being a member isn’t enough if you forget to use it at the till. Scan your physical Nectar card or the digital card in your app before you pay; otherwise, the till will charge the normal selling price rather than the promotional Nectar Price, which would be very annoying!

Can you get these offers at Sainsbury's Local?

Yes, the cheaper Cadbury Nectar Prices in this promotion are also available in Sainsbury’s Local stores.

Local stores don’t always carry the same Nectar offers as the larger supermarkets. They stock a smaller range of products and can have different pricing and promotional strategies, so something you see advertised at a larger Sainsbury’s isn’t always guaranteed to appear in the same way at your nearest Local.

This promotion is different, as Cadbury products are also offered at the cheaper Nectar prices in Local stores. The smaller range still matters, though, because your Local may stock some of the 97p bags, Fingers or £1 multipacks without carrying every product in the promotion.

That means you don’t necessarily need to travel to a larger supermarket for this deal, but if there is a particular flavour or multipack you want, I’d still check what your local branch stocks before making a special journey.

Can you get cashback on top of the Nectar deal?

Yes, very likely! Sainsbury’s gift cards are available through cashback gift-card services such as JamDoughnut, so you may be able to earn instant cashback on your shop, on top of the cheaper Nectar prices.

If you’re doing an online grocery shop, it’s also worth checking cashback services such as TopCashback, Quidco and Rakuten before you order.

Cashback rates can change quickly and one service may be paying more than another, so I always check the apps I use before buying to see which is offering the best rate at the time.

Is it worth stocking up for Christmas?

If you love Cadbury chocolate and normally buy these products anyway, this is one of those promo's where putting a few extra packs away can make sense. Paying 97p now instead of £1.95 later is a worthwhile saving, particularly if you’re going to need several packs over the next few months.

These bags and multipacks are also handy as Christmas stocking fillers, for putting out when people visit, or for decorating Christmas cakes and desserts. In my experience, products like these often have best-before dates several months into the future at this point in the year, so there is a good chance they’ll take you comfortably past Christmas, possibly even to Easter, but check every pack before stocking up.

The same 97p offer is very unlikley to run again before Christmas, so if the best-before date works and it’s something you know your household will use, buying it while it is heavily reduced can save you paying the full price closer to December.

I wouldn’t go overboard. Buying ten bags because they’re 97p only saves money if those ten bags would eventually have been bought anyway!

What about stock in your local store?

When the previous 97p promotion ran, I went into my local Sainsbury’s to have a look and there was still a decent amount of chocolate on the shelves at the time. Stock can move very differently from one branch to another, particularly once people start sharing the offer online.

I wouldn’t assume a larger store will automatically have everything or that a Local will have hardly anything. This time the promotion is available in Local stores too, although their smaller ranges mean they may carry fewer of the qualifying products.

If you’re travelling specifically for Twirl Bites, Caramel Nibbles, Salted Caramel Fingers or another particular product, checking the current Sainsbury's Cadbury listings before leaving home could save a wasted trip.

I’d start with the chocolate or sweets that would already have gone into your trolley, then see whether the Nectar promotion lets you buy them for less.
