Wetherspoon Deals: 7.5% Off Food & Drink

Wetherspoon deals include a one-day 7.5% discount on food and drinks at participating pubs.

Wetherspoon is cutting the price of food and drinks by 7.5% on Thursday the 17th of September as part of its annual Tax Equality Day. The one-day discount applies at participating pubs across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with food and non-alcoholic drinks discounted in Scotland.

There’s no voucher or promotional code to find, as the reduction is applied automatically when you pay.

If your food and drinks would normally cost £10, you’ll pay £9.25. Spend £20 and the bill falls to £18.50, while a £40 order drops to £37. The discount also applies to Thursday Curry Club deals, which means you can get the normal club price and then have a further 7.5% taken off.

The offer is available for one day only, so if you were already planning a Wetherspoon meal or drink this week, Thursday is the cheaper day to do it. Airport pubs and Wetherspoon locations at Haven holiday parks are excluded, and local licensing restrictions can still apply. You can use the Wetherspoon pub finder to check your nearest location before heading out.

How does Wetherspoon Tax Equality Day work?

Tax Equality Day is Wetherspoon’s annual one-day price reduction, designed to show what lower hospitality taxes could mean for customers. For Thursday the 17th of September, prices are being cut by 7.5% on qualifying food and drinks throughout opening hours. The discount is applied automatically, so you can order at the bar or through the Wetherspoon app without entering a code.

The offer covers food and drinks across participating pubs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In Scotland, food and non-alcoholic drinks receive the reduction but alcoholic drinks do not because of Scottish licensing rules. Individual pubs can still be subject to local restrictions and availability.

How much can you save?

The saving depends on how much you spend, with 7.5% taken from the qualifying amount you would normally pay.

It isn’t a huge saving on a single cheap item, but it becomes more noticeable if several people are eating or you were already planning a larger order. A £40 family meal, for example, leaves another £3 in your pocket. As always, the saving only really helps if it’s money you were already expecting to spend.

What food and drinks are included?

The 7.5% reduction applies across qualifying food and drinks rather than being restricted to a handful of selected products. That includes meals, soft drinks, hot drinks and alcoholic drinks in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Alcohol isn’t included in the Scottish reduction, but food and non-alcoholic drinks still receive the discount.

Thursday Curry Club is included too, so you don’t have to choose between the usual Curry Club price and Tax Equality Day. If you were already planning to have one of the Thursday meals, the extra reduction is applied to that deal as well.

Prices can vary between pubs, so check the food and drink menu for your local Wetherspoon rather than assuming every branch charges exactly the same amount.

Do you need a voucher or the Wetherspoon app?

No. You don’t need a voucher, coupon or discount code to get the 7.5% Tax Equality Day price. The reduction is applied automatically at participating pubs whether you order at the bar or through the app.

The Wetherspoon app is still useful because you can order food and drinks from your table and check your pub before you visit. You can also order from your table using the QR code without downloading the app.

What other Wetherspoon deals are available?

Tax Equality Day only lasts for one day, but Wetherspoon also has regular food offers throughout the week. The exact deals and prices can vary between pubs, so I’d always check the current menu at your local Wetherspoon before making a trip specifically for an offer.

Current regular deals include weekday afternoon offers, while individual menus can also feature day-specific offers such as Curry Club. Wetherspoon also offers free refills on qualifying tea and coffee once you’ve bought the first drink, and those refills aren’t limited to Tax Equality Day.

If you’re choosing a pub based on a particular offer, the Wetherspoon pub finder lets you open the individual pub page and check its menu and opening times before you go.

Can you get cashback at Wetherspoon?

There isn’t a general cashback deal built into Tax Equality Day, but cashback is still worth checking before you pay if you already use services that offer card-linked rewards. Offers can change, so I wouldn’t assume a particular service will have Wetherspoon available every time.

My guide to UK cashback websites and apps explains the different types of cashback and reward services worth checking. Card-linked offers are particularly useful in situations like this because, where an eligible offer exists, you generally pay as normal with the linked card rather than changing how you order.

I wouldn’t spend more or choose a more expensive meal just to trigger cashback. If a reward is already available on money you intended to spend, though, it’s worth taking advantage of it.

What happened to the Wetherspoon January Sale?

The Wetherspoon January Sale is a separate promotion from Tax Equality Day. Earlier this year, the sale ran from the 2nd to the 15th of January at more than 600 pubs, with selected food and drinks reduced rather than a percentage being taken from the whole menu.

The sale included deals such as 99p Worthington’s, selected low and alcohol-free drinks from 99p, £2.99 glasses of wine and reduced food-and-drink combinations. Those January Sale prices have ended, so they shouldn’t be treated as current Wetherspoon prices.

I’m keeping the January Sale information on this page because it’s a recurring Wetherspoon promotion and a lot of people search specifically for the Wetherspoon January Sale. When details of the next sale are announced, this page can be updated again rather than creating another separate article.

For now, the deal to know about is the 7.5% Tax Equality Day reduction on Thursday the 17th of September. Check the menu at your local Wetherspoon, make sure your pub is participating and then check that the reduction has been applied when you pay.
