UK Toy Sales: When Will the Deals Start?

If the Christmas list already includes a play kitchen, a train set or the latest Hot Wheels toy, the autumn UK toy sales can help spread the cost before December arrives. Aldi and Lidl both have wooden toys arriving on Thursday the 8th of October, while Morrisons and Argos already have toy offers to browse. It’s a useful time to compare prices, although a large discount doesn’t automatically mean you’ve found the cheapest place to buy.
I compare the exact toy elsewhere before deciding whether a sale is worth using, including delivery charges and any loyalty-card price. My earlier Asda check showed why: a reduced Hot Wheels set was still cheaper at another retailer, but the saving changed once delivery was included. You’ll find that dated example below, alongside the current event details and the retailers still worth watching.
Which UK toy sales are live or coming next?
Aldi and Lidl have confirmed wooden-toy launches for the 8th of October, so those are dates you can put in the diary. Morrisons’ Big Toy Event and Argos’ rolling offers provide options if you’re shopping before then. Other retailers’ past sale dates can help you decide when to look, but they shouldn’t be mistaken for a confirmed event this year.
Aldi wooden toys: what arrives on the 8th of October?
The Aldi wooden-toy range includes more than 50 toys, with prices starting at £3.99. Larger options include kitchens at £29.99 and a dollhouse or vanity table at £34.99, while smaller vehicles and puzzles could suit a stocking or birthday-party gift. The range is available in stores while stocks last, with a maximum of two of each product per person on certain lines.
Before making a special trip, compare the toy’s dimensions, recommended age and included accessories with the alternatives you’re considering. A kitchen that costs a few pounds less might take up more space, or need extra play food buying separately. The useful saving is on a present that suits the child and your budget, rather than something you’ve bought because other shoppers want it.
These are advertised in-store Specialbuys, so plan around visiting a branch and checking local opening times. Aldi’s new Deliveroo trial includes selected Specialbuys, but that doesn’t confirm this wooden-toy range will be available to order. Don’t rely on delivery as a backup for a particular toy unless it actually appears as available for your address.
Lidl wooden toys: the same launch day as Aldi
Lidl GB’s wooden-toy event also starts on the 8th of October, with advertised offers running until the 14th of October, subject to availability. Selected discounts have Lidl Plus conditions, so compare the price you’ll actually qualify for. The dates here are for Lidl GB; don’t use an Irish leaflet or euro price as a guide to your local British store.
Having both ranges arrive on the same day gives you more choice, but it doesn’t mean you need to visit both shops. Look through the ranges first and decide which toy best fits your list, available space and budget. If you’re comparing similar wooden toys, the size and accessories matter just as much as the price.
Asda’s Big Toy Event: what my price check found
Asda’s advertised September Toy Rollback event ended on the 29th of September. Individual reductions can still appear, but the September promotion shouldn’t be treated as an ongoing event. The figures in the following example are from my check on the 5th of September 2026, rather than current offers.
At that earlier check, just under 70 products appeared in the full Big Toy Event range, with reductions mixed in among new products and items still at their normal price. The LEGO Jet vs Car set was £18.50 against a displayed £24.97, Launch Ready Buzz Lightyear was £15 against £19.98, and the Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Trophy Champions Collection was £25 against £36.98. There were worthwhile reductions, but I still checked the same products elsewhere.
Very had that Hot Wheels set for £23.99, even though one comparison service was still displaying Asda’s old £36.98 price. My Asda basket showed £3.75 standard delivery, compared with £3.99 at Very below its then £75 free-delivery threshold, making the delivered totals £28.75 and £27.98. That left a difference of just 77p, while free collection from Asda kept its total at £25.
My basket also offered £5.50 next-day delivery, which shows how the delivery choice can change the saving again. Those charges belong to the dated comparison and shouldn’t be assumed to apply to an order today. Open the retailer’s current page and check the final basket before relying on a comparison result.
Tesco toy sale: check the current offer, not last year’s date
Tesco’s previous autumn toy sale began on the 16th of September 2025 and ran until the 2nd of November. It included more than 200 toys in over 260 stores, through The Entertainer, with selected half-price-or-better reductions and Clubcard Prices. Those details describe last year’s event and aren’t a confirmed timetable for this autumn.
Sale calendars are listing a September start this year, but I haven’t verified a matching current official announcement for this update. If you’re already in Tesco, check the toy displays and whether you need a Clubcard for the advertised price. I wouldn’t make a special journey based only on a date copied from last year’s sale.
Morrisons toy sale: the Big Toy Event is being promoted
Morrisons’ Big Toy Event is featured on its current website, so you can check the available selection now. Look at any More Card requirement beside the price, as the amount you pay can depend on scanning your card. There isn’t a verified end date for the whole event in this update, so use the terms beside the individual offer.
The selected LEGO offers I linked to in September had their own expiry date and shouldn’t be confused with the current event. A toy sale can contain several offers that end on different days. If you’re ordering with groceries, check the delivery charge and basket requirements before comparing it with a shop where you could collect the toy.
Sainsbury’s toy event: later October is worth watching
Sainsbury’s main event began on the 22nd of October last autumn, which makes the second half of October a useful time to look again. This year’s date hasn’t been verified from a current official announcement for this update. Predicted dates on sale calendars can help you plan, but they aren’t a reason to assume a particular Wednesday is guaranteed.
Check the current toy range if you’re already shopping at Sainsbury’s, including any Nectar conditions attached to an offer. A smaller reduction on the exact toy you want can be more useful than a larger discount on something else. If you buy early for Christmas, keep the receipt and check how long you have to return it.
Argos, Smyths and B&M toy offers
Argos’ toy-offers page has rolling reductions, clearance and selected multibuys, including 2 for £15, 2 for £20 and 2 for £30. These give you a reason to check individual toys without waiting for a single named Christmas sale. Only use a multibuy if you actually want both toys, and include any delivery charge in your comparison.
Smyths also runs different promotions throughout autumn, and its clearance section remains a place to check individual items. Last autumn’s early-October offers included selected half-price Squishmallows, brand multibuys and a LEGO spend-and-save event, rather than one discount across the whole shop. Check the current product price and availability before travelling or ordering, as those old offers aren’t being presented as live.
B&M’s previous Christmas 3-for-£20 event began in early December, but a matching start date hasn’t been verified for this year. You can still browse its current toy range while waiting for later announcements. Compare each toy separately before deciding whether a bundle saves you money, especially if it encourages you to add a third present you hadn’t planned to buy.
How I check whether a toy sale is really cheaper
Start by making sure you’re comparing the same model, size and number of pieces, then check at least two other sellers. Add delivery or collection costs and any loyalty discount, so the prices represent what you’d actually pay. PriceSpy and idealo can help with comparisons and price history, but open the retailer’s own page too because a feed can lag behind a new price.

I also check return costs and deadlines, particularly when a present will sit in a cupboard until Christmas. A saving is only useful if the toy is something you wanted and the purchase fits your budget.
Once you’ve found the cheapest suitable shop, check whether cashback could reduce the cost a little further. JamDoughnut is worth checking for eligible retailer gift cards, while TopCashback, Quidco and Rakuten may have offers for qualifying online orders. Read the current retailer and purchase terms, and don’t pay more for the toy simply to earn a smaller amount back.
Before Thursday, jot down the toys you actually need and what they currently cost, with a spending limit beside each one. That gives you something useful to compare with Aldi and Lidl’s ranges rather than deciding everything in the aisle. If the right present is cheaper after all the costs are included, you can buy it knowing what you’ve saved.
