Asda To End Its Blue Light Card Discount Scheme On 27 May 2025 – What You Need to Know

Asda has announced that its partnership with Blue Light Card will officially come to an end on 27th May 2025. This marks the close of a long-running scheme offering in-store rewards to NHS staff, emergency service workers, and other eligible key workers. Annoyingly, my wife has a Blue Light Card and didn't actually know about the discount, so we've learned too late to actually save some money!

Asda has announced that its partnership with Blue Light Card will officially come to an end on 27th May 2025.

Is it too late to join the Asda Blue Light Scheme?

From 13 May 2025, new connections between Blue Light Card memberships and Asda Rewards accounts will no longer be accepted. However, if you’ve already linked your Blue Light Card to your Asda Rewards app before this deadline, you’re still in time to benefit from the offer until the scheme ends later in the month.

Last Chance to Earn 5% Back on Food

If you’ve successfully linked your accounts, you can continue to earn 5% back in your Asda Rewards Cashpot on selected fresh food purchases. The offer runs until 27 May 2025 at 11:59 pm and is only valid in-store (not online at George.com).

Eligible items include:

  • Fresh meat and fish

  • Fruit and vegetables

  • Bakery items

  • Dairy products

  • Fresh juices and smoothies

Excluded items include:

  • Just Essentials range

  • Alcohol, frozen and ready meals

  • Household goods, clothing, fuel, and tobacco

  • Beauty and baby items

A complete list of exclusions is available on the Asda website.

The 5% cashback Asda Blue Light Scheme Savings terms:

  • Applies only in physical Asda stores (excluding petrol stations, Asda Express stores, and cafés)

  • Requires the Asda Rewards app with a linked and valid Blue Light Card ID

  • It is capped at £100 of spending per day

Are there any other ways to save money on my Asda shop?

There aren't any other dedicated Emergency service-type discount schemes to save money on an Asda shop; however, everyone can save money at Asda, plus hundreds of other retailers, by using a cashback service to earn cashback on their shop. I've published a post about all the cashback apps you should be using to save money here, but regarding Asda specifically, I'd recommend JamDoughnut to buy Asda gift cards and receive instant cashback when shopping in-store or online. It's so easy! My blog post here explains more about JamDoughnut and how it works, gives you a way to sign up and get a £3 bonus, plus explains more about how gift card cashback works in general.
